Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer or class of vehicle, and you
decide/choose a single vehicle (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the
rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry,
insurance, gas, etc.
This time we'll do a brand named after a man called Adam, his last name was Opel but I guess you've figured that bit out already. Opel was founded in 1862 as a company who made sewing machines in a shed (a cowshed in fact), this escalated rather fast so he bought some bigger premises and started selling Penny-farthings.. Anywho, in or about the year 1899 Opel started making cars,
I could go on about that but let's just say that GM bought a huge part of the company in 1929.. Oh... yeah.. Opel was the first german car maker to massproduce cars on an assembly line.
Yeah, enough about that. Opel was now part of GM, an you could see vauxhalls branded as Opels, Opels branded as Cadillacs, some even say that there was a brand over in some far country on the other side of the world that sold stuff that looked almost like some of the cars Opel made (or the other way around). I've also heard rumours about something called Buick that essentially was rebadged Opels (at the end at least)
ANYWHO. Time to choose a car, and this won't be easy for me. I've owned more than one Opel, like the Kadett C City.
But I can't pick that one, as a DD it just won't do it. No, I think I'll choose something even older, the Kapitän A, with the 4.6 V8 please.
So, what would YOU pick?
PS: I decided to do a more "text heavy" post this time, some ramblings about the manufacturer. Would you like me to keep doing that? Or should I just write "pick a model from , I'd have this "

Opel Manta 400. Preferably in Group B trim. Easiest OCG ever. All other answers are wrong.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:05 |

Rekord wagon, P2, 2 door. Please!
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:06 |

The only thing I can think of from Opel that I'd want in stock form is the Speedster Turbo
If modifications are allowed though then I'd want a GT with a rotary out of the RX8 transplanted under the hood somehow.

No contest:
I'm single, with no kids and no intention to ever have any. I also don't buy a ton of groceries at one time or transport large objects very often. So...yeah, no argument can dissuade me from this choice, lol.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:08 |
|
I'm only familiar with the Kadett and the GT so I'd have to go with a GT.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:08 |

Ascona 400 for me!
I like the longer text, it adds a bit of depth and the post feels more solid. So if you don't mind the extra work, please continue!
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:12 |

Definitely not this one. Too much water damage.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:13 |

Ampera for me please! Or if I could just get the body panels to make my Volt look bizarre, that would be fine too.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:15 |

I don' mind writing a long(ish) post...
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:17 |

Does this one count?I know it was tuned by Lotus and built by them, but it does have an Opel badge up front.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:18 |

It count's mate... it counts :)
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:20 |

Lotus Omega and Irmscher Senator aside, take a V8 Diplomat Coupé. Classy as fuck, yet working class.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:20 |

Great :D
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:21 |

The Opel Speedster in hill-climb form with the E92's V8, please.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:26 |
|
Well, that was easy.

kinja cocks things up mate, don't know if you got my previous answer. I'l gladly write longer pieces :)
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:37 |
|
I got it, but it seems like it was a bit in the grey department (along with my initial comment).
Kinja cocking up is a regular thing.. We have to find a way around it somehow..
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:37 |

Not sure if the family would approve but that had to be an Astra Xtreme, a one-off based on the DTM-racer of the time, featuring a 444 hp V8:
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:42 |
|
Now THAT's a big Co.. Yeah... Kinja does not behave nice now..
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:43 |
|
This was a tough one, even though I'm not a huge fan of the brand. I thought about the 78'Senator with the 3.0 engine, but I'd rather take this:
Zafira A OPC.

"What's an Opel?" - says the American
Just kidding, I'd take a Rekord or Kadette. Manta if you can find a rally version for me.
Oh, and I like the ramblings. Please do that.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:48 |
|
For me as well, please!
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:50 |

OLIVER!
But seriously. It's like a puppy in car form.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:54 |
|
Kinja is acting up now, so If this ends up as a double post I'm sorry.
But I'll be doing stuff about strange amerian cars as well :)
And I'll keep the ramblings...
![]() 01/13/2014 at 16:57 |

I want this: The Opel Speedster, I don't think they sold them outside of Europe. It's based afaik on the Lotus elise and it's imo one of the best looking cars opel has ever built.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 17:09 |
|
I'm going to go boring and modern.
Insignia OPC Unlimited. 2.8L V6 putting out 325 hp, 6 sp manual, AWD, no speed limiter.
![]() 01/13/2014 at 17:11 |
|
No shame in going boring mate :) It's a great car as far as I can see :)
![]() 01/13/2014 at 17:28 |

Dat Asstra.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:02 |
|
That's what I came to say - Opel Lotus Omega.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:05 |
|
Gonna pull an ASBO here...
This sexy beast is still not in Buick line-up
why is that?
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:06 |
|
I am gonna go with first gen Manta.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:06 |
|
That was just on last night.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:11 |

The Astra H OPC 4-door
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:12 |
|
That's a great answer!
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:13 |
|
I'll have some LS1 with my Opel, thank you.
Omega V8 Concept
Or perhaps in wagon form.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:18 |

On where? BBC America? LOL. They ruin Top Gear.
I have it downloaded from finalgear.com, so I can watch Top Gear whenever I want to.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:18 |
|
not sure if Kinja is going to repost this or not.
But I always thought Calibras were pretty cool.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:21 |

1972 Opel 1900? Sold as the Rekord? other places. Drove the crap out of it for several years. Great car.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:23 |
|
Yeah I caught the end of it. My brother has a shit ton saved on our living room DVR and it's also on Netflix.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:50 |
|
And those headlights.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:51 |
|
See Lotus Elise, then see Tesla Roadster. Alternatively, see Saturn Sky, them see Pontiac Solstice.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 20:59 |
|
Because I'm lame, I'd like to evoke the Pontiac Corollary. This entitles me to one Vauxhall VXR8, in Stormtrooper white with a row-your-own.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 21:05 |
|
My favorite Opel wasn't technically an Opel. It's a Manta TE 2800, built by a company called Transeurop Engineering, which was never recognized by Opel.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 21:16 |
|
Netflix = BBC America versions.
I prefer to have them un-altered.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 21:21 |
|
How much is changed?
![]() 01/14/2014 at 21:26 |
|
Music is randomly different throughout. Segments are shortened or removed. Things are censored.
Season 8, is there even a Ewan McGregor interview? If there is what is the first question Jeremy asks?
You really should just download them from finalgear. You won't get a virus or malware. Get uTorrent to handle the torrent files. You'll feel like you're watching an entirely new show.
Also, BBCA/Netflix do not have the first few seasons. Season 1 in particular is fun to watch, if only to see how far they have improved.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 21:42 |
|
I'll have to check it out. I never even knew I was missing out on anything.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 21:52 |
|
So that's where Lexus got their horrid new corporate front end from!
![]() 01/14/2014 at 22:00 |
|
This is why I only get them from finalgear. I know I am getting the exact same show that aired in England.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 22:20 |
|
Never knew that existed. It's like they grafted a 65-67 Chevy II front end on to a first-generation Monaro body. That is a nice looking car, and with a 327 small-block and a 4-speed it's the perfect basis for a little hot rod.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 22:38 |
|
It would make the regals and lacrosses wet themselves
![]() 01/15/2014 at 12:23 |
|
Wow! What is that thing? Why is it not in America? It is beautiful!
![]() 01/15/2014 at 16:25 |

It's The Opel Astra OPC. The Hot hatch that shames the MS3 with it's 280 torque steering horses
![]() 01/15/2014 at 19:09 |

Damn....I shall wait 25 years!
![]() 01/18/2014 at 15:55 |

First gen Omega Caravan with the 3 liter engine.
![]() 01/20/2014 at 13:23 |
|
Speedster for sure!
Which looks absolutely bonkers with a fastback rear:
![]() 01/20/2014 at 13:25 |

Damn, I REALLY like that red one.. Nice choice mate.
